Ensemble Stars Character Tier List: A Guide to Your Favorites

An Ensemble Stars character tier list can show your favorites, performance preferences or opinions about writing and design. Choose one main criterion and state how much of the cast's material you know. irank's supplied template contains 68 portraits, including staff and supporting characters, so inspect the image set before deciding whom to rank.

Decide which portraits fit your ranking

The supplied irank template contains 68 portraits. That describes the image set, including staff and supporting characters; it does not mean there are 68 idols or establish an exhaustive current roster. Choose whether your board covers every portrait you know or a smaller set suited to your question.

A general favorites board can include characters you appreciate for different reasons. A performance-preference board needs comparable material for each entry. If a portrait does not fit that criterion, leave it outside the scored tiers and explain your scope.

Choose what your Enstars character ranking measures

A placement is easier to discuss when it answers one question. These possible criteria describe ways to compare your experience, not established positions for the characters.

Set tier definitions before placing familiar favorites

irank starts with S, A, B, C and D rows and supports custom tier labels. For a personal favorites board, this example rubric gives each row a meaning. It does not assign live community scores or official positions.

  • S: My strongest favorites within the cast I am assessing.
  • A: Characters I strongly enjoy and can explain why.
  • B: Characters I like but do not consider major favorites.
  • C: Characters I have mixed feelings about or limited attachment to.
  • D: Characters I get little enjoyment from within my stated scope.

Account for familiarity and unit preference

You may know your favorite unit's material better than everyone else's. That familiarity can give you more reasons to appreciate its members. Acknowledge the difference rather than presenting an uneven comparison as equally informed.

For a hypothetical example, suppose you enjoy Rei Sakuma's design but have read more material about Eichi Tenshouin. A design comparison and a writing comparison would then rest on different experiences. This imagined situation assigns neither character a score or a canon trait. Use the same criterion for the placement you actually make, and identify where your knowledge is limited.

Handle uncertainty without turning it into a low score

Keep unfamiliar characters outside your scored tiers until you have enough context. D should express a judgment under your rubric, not simply mean you have not read or watched the relevant material. Explain which entries you have left unranked.

For close choices, compare two characters using the same question and name one reason that separates them. If you cannot explain a meaningful difference, let them share a tier. Say whether left-to-right position within a row matters when you share the image.

Explain a placement with a clear spoiler scope

A helpful explanation connects the tier to your criterion: which performance detail, story role or design choice shaped your opinion? Keep it specific enough to discuss without declaring that everyone should respond the same way.

For a story ranking, state which material you have read. Mention spoilers and identify the relevant story before discussing a reveal. If you want a broadly readable introduction, describe motivation, relationships or development without naming the turning point. Someone at a different story point may reasonably place the same character differently.

Check names and context before making canon claims

The official Ensemble Stars website provides story, unit and discography sections. Use publisher material to check context when an explanation depends on it. The app's English display names include Rei Sakuma, Eichi Tenshouin and Anzu; a display name identifies the portrait without establishing a story interpretation.

A favorite-character board does not establish gameplay strength or the performance of a particular card. Keep those questions separate, and support any gameplay comparison with its own conditions and evidence.

Choose a cast board or an individual character opinion

Use the supplied template for a visual comparison across the portraits you selected. You can rank existing public template images and export a PNG without signing in. Share your criterion and scope alongside the image so others understand the board.

For an opinion focused on one character, irank offers separate S–D ratings and optional short reviews. These do not change your personal tier list. The Ensemble Stars ratings page is another place to explore the characters available for individual rating.

Frequently asked questions

Does the template contain 68 idols?

It contains 68 portraits, including staff and supporting characters. The number describes the supplied image set, not an exhaustive current idol roster.

Should I rank characters whose stories I have not read?

You can judge a design you have seen while leaving story opinions undecided. State the criterion and keep unfamiliar entries outside tiers that require knowledge you do not have.

Can my favorite unit's members all share a tier?

Yes, if that placement fits your stated criterion. Explain the individual reasons or make clear when shared unit preference shaped your choices.

Does a high favorites tier mean better card performance?

No. A personal favorites board records enjoyment. A card-performance comparison needs its own card selection, conditions and evidence.
